When Life Gives You Lemons, Keep A Puppy..
You know those days? Those days that you have had it with the world, you aren’t feeling satisfied with work, wish you could just leave it all behind? I had one of them last week. I was looking forward to getting home to unwind in my PJs with Chipotle take-out & wine. As I was pulling into my complex, this caught my eye, out by the trash cans & on her own….
This adorable little gal, a big ball of MOP, FLUFF & MESS. Scared, & a bit growly, I was very persistent in attempting to grab & help her. I was instantly in-love. She looks like something out of a Disney or Muppets movie. Maybe I am crazy, but, luckily, my boyfriend was pretty taken with this little lady, too, & now, my friends, I am pleased to introduce the newest member of the ACM family….
I truly thought she would be an overnight guest, but, alas, why give up a perfectly good pup?! π Luckily, Hammy seems great with her & I hope hes enjoying being the big brother as much asΒ weΒ are watching him. If some are wondering about her name, we wanted to think of a bad-ass female charcter, & we both love the Alien series. Nova was also in the running as “New Star” in Greek seems very appropriate, no? You can call her Ripley Nova, Ripley, Rip, Nova….shes not really answering to anything yet!
I’ve really appreciated how many of my friends have told me how awesome it is that I wanted to help & keep her. Is it funny that to me there was no other choice? Of course I would help her! You can be someone’s hero, too. Heres some advice I have if you ever find a stray dog:
Always approach with caution! As cute as her & hammy were when I first saw them, I knew I had to be careful. If you have any food to put on the ground, use that as your first step to gain some trust.
Always check for a micro chip! PetsMart with Banfield Pet Hospitals in their store will check for one. As well as most vet clinics. As bad as Ripley looked, I was concerned if she’d been lost from a loving family.
If you need to take them to a shelter, please try to find one that’s no-kill. I encountered difficulty finding one open as it was later in the day, but there are many search & rescue organizations out there.
Ripley was such a blessing in disguise for me. Shes cheering me up so much & i’m so glad she was my present for the day that I just let happen.
And, in-case you’re wondering, I finally ate that Chipotle take-out 2 or 3 hours after Ripley came about!
