Tori Amos’ Unrepentant Geraldines Tour!

2014 is an awesome year so far for me & the best has yet to come. This summer, I will get to see some of my dearest friends, make new ones & see my most favorite musician, Tori Amos. Tori will embark on a world tour this May for her upcoming album, Tori-appropriately titled, Unrepentant Geraldines. Its been a bit humorous incorporating someone new & special into my life with my Tori world…my boo, Michael! 😉 Not yet an EWF (Ears with Feet, Tori talk for ‘fan’.), I appreciate he thinks its cool how I ‘network’ with other fans & seems open to attending a concert with me.

If I score tickets to the shows I want to get to (LA & San Diego), they will mark my seeing her 9 times so far, & word is this tour is simply the star red-head, who turned 50 last summer(!) & her beloved Bosendorfer piano. Heaven to me, newbies like Michael?? I am skeptical! For hardcore peeps like myself, that means much more freedom for improvs, screw ups, giggles & sudden changes to the set list, which Tori is known to do. I have only seen her solo one time before, on her 2005 Beekeeper tour, which was magical as she wrote up a water themed set list since we were in Santa Barbara & you could faintly see the water behind the open-air venue. Song-girls like Jamaica Inn & Liquid Diamonds were serene & perfect for the ocean view, as were Icicle & Bells for Her, a songs she has said to be a ‘funeral for a friendship’, which was haunting. I remember that sea breeze & coldness setting in as the song progressed & reflected how frozen her friend had become to her.

The last time she toured was an amazing weekend of 2 gigs for me in LA a week before Christmas on her Night of Hunters tour & had her in a whole new way; with a string quartet! I spent those 2 days mostly on the cold ground in front of The Orpheum Theatre as we awaited a meet & greet with Tori, which went down Sunday afternoon & the Saturday evening concert was easily one of my most favorites; 5th row, dead center (Thanks to my friend, Amy) & favorites like Suede, Cloud on my Tongue & Cruel.

This year, it ought to be a 180 as I will be seeing her in the middle of July…I am sure it will bring to mind my trip north to see her in 2009 when the nearby bank marquee had 104 degrees as San Joses’ temp while we waited for another beloved meet & greet!
Her California stops will be her Oakland usual for Bay Area folks, The Paramount (which is truly a landmark for the San Fran area city; recently renovated yet still has its old world feel), The Greek Theatre for LA (A venue she has said “Is her favorite place in the world to play”) & San Diego’s Humphreys by-the-bay, which I am so excited about & hope to see her at.

The tour kicks off this July. Oakland is on sale now, a pre sale will happen for The Greek March 18 & Humphreys pre sale will go down April 1st. For more info on getting seats, check out Tori’s web-site here & get ready for a wonderful concert, or 2…or 3 😉 xo

I adore her and saw at Toad’s in New Haven in a horrid blizzard 1993 Feb before she was famous. It was my third semester at Yale and the worst winter in years–the first winter for this LA girl quite a shock.

Little Earthquakes had made quite a splash, or more aptly, shaken the music world but she was still in a tour bus and very late.

It was a weeknight and I went alone. No one wanted to go out with the snowdrifts at that hour on a school night.

When she arrived, she apologized profusely and said, in essence, screw it, I will just play and you guys can stay as long as you like. I was no more than 15 feet away.

I next saw her at the Greek. A huge production and so, so different 16 years later. She was excellent but less chatty and I was unwell so listened to second half lying down in my Pathfinder in stack parking. 100 minutes on Friday night through Hollywood back to the Palisades but worth it. Her keyboard skills blow away everyone else’s in rock music. Only in New York’s cabaret scene do you hear people as talented.

I hope I am in LA for the show and that there are still tickets. (And not at Greek–it’s like driving to another state from Westside unless you get a hotel room and make an adventure out of it)!

What an amazing story! She certainly has changed over the yrs, as have her shows. I wish I could have seen her back in the LE days!

I like Tori– but wasn’t really aware of her EWF followers! She really is an amazing musician and I hope you and Michael can BOTH enjoy her this tour 🙂

The Santa Barbara venue does sound magical. Here’s hoping you get the tickets to LA and San Diego that you want!

Is she coming to SB? We don’t have concerts at Bowl except summer but will look. Easier by far. The Greek is a nightmare unless you live in Hollywood

As of now, she is not. But that’s such a great venue; I have seen a bunch of shows, including Tori, there.

I will get a hotel room. Too much to go in and back from “the beach.”

Will make a good blog on Victorian Chick. Had I not stood up for my principle , could have blogged about it for HuffPo 🙂
