The Renaissance Pleasure Faire!
Here ye! Here ye! Its Spring time & that means one thing here in LA: The Renaissance Pleasure Faire is in full swing for an exciting month filled with Lords, Fair Maidens, Jousting & of course, great food. I had yet to experience all that this beloved faire, which has been happening annually for 53 years, has to offer. So, when I was invited to come out for ACM, I was so excited to see what the faire is like.
Held yearly out in The Inland Empire at The Santa Fe Dam Recreation Park in Irwindale, this elaborate park has enough to offer to keep you entertained the entire day; You could easily pack a breakfast to enjoy prior to entering the faire, which opens at 10am, & enjoy it at the park, as well as miles of room to take a walk or let the kids play. As you drive onto the road to head up to the faire’s parking lot, be advised that it is a dirt gravelled road, so drive carefully & your vehicle will get dusty. (Translation: Don’t plan a trip to the car wash before you visit!).
While awaiting in line for our tickets, we were entertained by a wonderful character actor, giving us a sneak peek of this new, faraway land we were about to enter. If you like to people watch, The Renaissance Faire will not disappoint. Not only do you get to experience the brilliant live actors & performers, who range from magicians to pianists, fire eaters to jousts, but, all the attendees as well. Luckily, there’s a good mix of both casually dressed to full, completely decked out folks.
Two things that immediately come to mind when we think of The Ren Faire is: The food & drinks! Theres countless food stands to check out, & if you’re a carnivore, you’ve come to the right spot. Theres ribs, tri-tip, turkey legs, kabob & bacon wrapped everything. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, there’s floats galore like root beer, mocha & various sodas a la mode. For vegetarians, I recommend the greek food as theres an awesome appetizer sampler for $10 with a bit of everything. While Mike & I didn’t partake in The Pub Crawl, that looked amazing as you purchase a pass that enables you to try 1 of anything on tap at each of their 6 pubs. It brought to mind the film, The World’s End, which Mike & I are fans of & sure enough, the faire makes reference to it on one of their signs! 😉
Something to definitely keep in mind when attending, is: The weather. It was extremely hot over the weekend, & we were covered in SPF, but, it’s still A LOT of sunshine, so, plan accordingly to ensure you have the best time possible. Huge kudos to everyone dressed up in warm costumes for the faire.
They also offer season passes to The Ren Faire & it’s not a bad idea to make sure you see it all over the course of the weekends its up. To learn more about the admission options & what to see, visit them HERE & get ready to step back in time to The Renaissance era! xo
