A Saturday at The Surf Rodeo!
This past weekend, I was so excited to head out of the house & hit the beachfront with Mike for the 5th Annual Surf Rodeo in Ventura. Having not been out to Ventura much, nor the beach at all this summer yet, for that matter, it was the perfect little afternoon road trip & a big thanks to the rodeo for having us! 🙂
Since I was recovering from some sort of tummy bug the day prior (ugh!), we didn’t head out in the early hours, which was a bit of a bummer as I love watching surfing & would have loved to have seen more of the surf contests, which wrap up by 11am. We were able to check out all the fabulous vendors that line up the street before heading into the rodeo. Once on the beach, there was an abundance of food trucks & an ever popular beer garden to check out.
The Bikini Cowgirl Contest was also in full swing, much to the men’s enjoyment 😉 I had never seen a bikini contest & it brought the famous 60s character, “Gidget”, to my mind, hehe!
A highlight of the afternoon was the Orange County ska band, The Suburban Legends. These guys put on a fantastic, high energetic set that included an awesome line up of Disney classics like I Just Can’t Wait to be King, Under the Sea & The Duck Tails theme. Sounds random, right?! That cool tie-in is due to the fact they have played at Disneyland during the summers. They were keeping the crowds pumped, even the kids!
The Surf Rodeo is such a great tradition in Ventura, but you know what I learned, for next year? Wear your bathing suit & bring a towel! Quite a few folks had their swim gear in tow, & it would have been a great opportunity to jump in the water 😉
Next up in this gorgeous beach side city? The annual Art Walk & the County Fair! Check it all out HERE! xo
