ALONG COMES MARY

As if you haven’t noticed, I really love my dogs. I rarely meet any canine I don’t immediately love and wish I could save them all. Hammond, AKA Hammy, is our happy-go-lucky spaniel mutt that I found on the streets of Pasadena. Hammond Street, to be exact. Little feisty and sweet Nova, whom I wanted to name Princess Mononoke after one of my favorite films, found us two years later. Or, maybe I found her. After she was abandoned by neighbors who’d moved out of a nearby complex, I quickly scooped her up.

It’s been seven years, and they’ve got us wrapped around their paws more than ever. While they love road trips and exploring, it’s been difficult to get them out and about as of late. Since Mike and I are primarily working from home, I’ve managed to carve out special quality time so they don’t feel left out throughout the day. This could simply mean getting work done with them at either of my side or doing a kitchen activity together.

If you’re thinking, kitchen activity?! I know, I probably sound like crazy dog mom. But, we’ve struggled immensely with the pups being at our side and under us whenever we’re in the kitchen. Standing much too close to hot skillets, ovens, boiling water, they’re at the ready. Ever so hopeful for a frozen tater tot to fall, or a piece of grilled chicken if they luck out.

I looked into those begging eyes amidst my hot pots and pans, and of course, they got me. Although we’ve limited their kitchen time for everybody’s safety, I decided to try “cooking” with them.

I grabbed some Old Mother Hubbard’s All Natural Snacks at Walmart along with some peanut butter and bananas. I’ve previously bought Old Mother Hubbard’s as I love that they have gluten-free options! Despite Hammy and Nova are not on a gluten-free diet like their human mom, it’s not a bad option to have.

On this trip, they didn’t have any of the gluten-free left. I thought we could give Mini Original Assortment and P-Nuttier Dog Biscuits a whirl. The assortment bag comes with Liv’R’Crunch, Bac’N’Cheez, and P-Nuttier. With the latter, I spread some peanut butter and a thin slice of banana on top.  I think it’s safe to say the duo approve.

The added treats were a hit, and since he loves anything bacon flavored, I knew Hammy would go for the Bac’N’Cheez. Nova seemed to go for all three, yet especially enjoyed the P-Nuttier, with and without the added peanut butter and banana. She’s been known to reject banana in the past, so this was a bit of a surprise!

While I usually try to buy dog treats from independent shops, Old Mother Hubbard is my go-to when I do Walmart trips. Some quick fun facts:
