New Favorite TV Show: Sex & the City!
While I do own a TV set, I don’t have any cable or connection via my television to the outside world (Hello, internet!). I instead use my boob-tube for the enjoyment of my ever-growing DVD collection & the occasional rent from the local Red Box (Occasional? Who am I kidding…ok, several times a week!). Most recently, I decided to start collecting the complete seasons of the 90s cable classic, Sex & the City. It is my first time checking out a series on disc that I am not familiar with & what can I say…I am OBSESSED!;)
Growing up, I, of course, was too young & did not watch it. After seeing the 2008 movie on cable over at my Gramma’s & thinking it was adorable, I decided it was time to check out this groundbreaking series about 4 successful women living the single life in New York City. I actually thought it would not be my thing; I always had this impression that the show was about stuck-up, rich women who were portrayed like prostitutes. Oddly, I was proven wrong in a good way! I have become addicted to watching all the mis-adventures Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte & Miranda go through trying to meet their Mr. Right. It has shown me that, like I have been learning a lot anyway lately, that no matter how perfect you think other women & your friends are, we all still are kissing the frogs looking for our prince (whom I am beginning to think is a stupid, elusive dream….or nightmare!).
I have even found myself resisting from making some of my blog posts very Carrie Bradshaw-esque lately. While I certainly do not date as much as Carrie does, there have been moments since discovering the show that I DO feel like getting all Sex & the City on my readers. (Example: Why does a guy you had a drink date with bother to text you Happy Birthday, but does not seem interested in a 2nd date?? I wish he would just not have text me at all…even though the gesture was nice of him, I suppose.) Or, even though Facebook & on-line dating was a bit after its time, I still do Facebook stalk a very old, old crush/flame, whom I should not care about but, still sorta wish would all of a sudden become my Mr. Big….le sigh! All I can do is brush it off with a new pair of shoes a la Carrie, no?;) And, wouldn’t the world of OKCupid & Facebook have put this already fabulous show over the ever-loving top?! Just sayin’….
It has been a little, well, un-canny how close to home some of these gals scenarios have hit home for me, or brought to mind stories of friends. Whether it’s the younger guy anxious to get back to his place for a bowl of Cap’n Crunch (Or, in my case….Cocoa Puffs) or deciding to get a PUPPY to replace looking for a man, I am sure my neighbors have heard me laughing out loud at these episodes!;)
Were/are you a SATC fan? Who can you most relate to? And, most importantly, what other shows out there do you recommend for me to get into? Let me know! xo

November 8, 2012 at 10:33 amI can always relate to Miranda when she couldn’t stop eating the chocolate and she got it out of the bin. It’s so impossible to tear me away from food. Also, the time when Carrie had a premature ejaculator, I could so relate!
