Faces by Fern in Valley Village…
We all are living in a stressful world. Between families, work, school, getting from one place to the next, bills, money…it can all get a little overwhelming, & often, we overlook taking care of ourselves. Or, at-least, I know I do.
While I do try to make an effort to eat as best as can be, keep up with doctor/dentist visits, something I do overlook much too often is my skin, & seeing an Esthetician reguarly. Some people might see a Dermatologist, which is great as they’re an MD, an Esthetician is also crucial to remember to visit often as they can give you so much insight to your skin while giving you a recommended, even medicated facial….& who doesn’t love some pampering, which is what a facial feels like while you’re getting “treated”?!
This week, I set out to take advantage of the popular, twice a year “Spa Week” event; throughout the country, which is when several spas in your area participate for one week in April (NOW through April 19th!) & October in offering some of their best voted facials & treatments at the low rate of just $50. Not only do the spas get well-deserved promotion & potential new clients, but us clients get a great day of “Me” time.
My Spa Week day took place at my new favorite spot: Faces by Fern, located just minutes from me in North Hollywood’s Valley Village. Fern Burg has been a licensed Esthetician for 8 years now & running her own private business for the past 5 years. immediately when entering her spa & meeting her, I knew it was the beginning of a wonderful afternoon, & that I was in good hands. Super warm, & the kind of person that you feel like you’ve known forever, Fern takes handling your skin very seriously, & as soon as she heard my health conditions, including being gluten-free, she even got on the phone to Skin Script, the awesome skin care line shes uses, to ensure that all products to be used in my facial did not contain gluten/wheat, & guess what? Some DID! Not only did she substitute some of those items, she also wanted to educate herself about Diabetes & Lupus; Fern is very clear to tell you she is not a Doctor, & wants to be informed the best that she can be when she meets a new client.
When it was time for my signature facial, I was eager to hear more about my skin & feel the results. Luckily, Fern didn’t see any bad skin damage, but had some great tips for taking better care of my face & that infamous T-zone, which seems to love getting shiny in us all. The hour-long treatment felt absolutely wonderful, especially as a heat steamer was used & it made me want to take one home; I always enjoy the steam that is created when I pour out a boiling pot of water & this was just like that, just even more soothing. When she began to give me a heavenly arm massage, I was surprised, & she humorously reminded me that this IS a spa! 😉 I particularly loved the green tea cleanser that she used, as well as that none of the Skin Script products had any strong fragrances, if any at all.
Another highlight for me during any facial is the extracting. It might sound a little odd at first, but, trust me, it is something we definitely all need, especially if we have black heads &/or clogged pores.
My biggest improvement areas are cleansing & removing all my make up nightly, as well as increasing my moisturizing routine to twice a day. Thats something I really was pleased to discover with a Skin Script moisturizer she gave me samples of; it absorbs so well into my skin that there’s no concern of that heavy, greasy feel I encounter often, & thus, why I usually choose against wearing it during the day, especially if I’m wearing cosmetics at all.
Again, Spa Week is happening NOW until April 19th, so, if you live nearby, or find yourself in The Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley area, I cannot encourage you enough to make an appointment with Fern. You will be in such wonderful hands, & do keep in mind she can see the whole family; from women to teens, to men….& Mother’s/Father’s Day is around the corner! 😉 Visit her web-site HERE. xo
(*Disclosure: While I was provided sample sizes of several products to try from Fern, I paid to visit Faces by Fern at the Spa Week Discounted rate of $50. All opinions are my own.)

April 13, 2015 at 5:37 pmYou’re reminding me how long it has been since I last had a facial. I get massages fairly often, but a real spa day sounds great.
