Clueless Celebrates 20 Years at Street Food Cinema!

On Saturday night, my dear friend, Amanda & I, headed out to one of the best outdoor events you will find every Summer in LA: Street Food Cinema! Each year from May to October (usually with a great Halloween-esque finale), you can head on out to various parks & outdoor venues after a long day of the heat to sprawl out your blankets, chairs, grab your dinner then sit down on the grass to enjoy a live band then a great film classic.

This week, SFC invited me to enjoy  The 20th Anniversary of Clueless. The 1995 legendary coming of age, high school comedy that surrounds the life & times of Cher, a Beverly Hills blonde who loves nothing more than to play Cupid (It is based on of Jane Austen’s Emma, after all) & takes in homely new student, Tai (the late, great Brittany Murphy), only to realize that her needs matter, too & that she would like to find herself a boyfriend.

While the movie begins at 8:30 during these light nights of Summer, doors open at 5:30 & you’re treated to an array of food trucks from tacos to pizza, ice cream to popcorn & everything in between. I hit up Say Fish Taco & was extremely pleased that they had a sign letting you know that they’re more than happy to accommodate any dietary restrictions, like gluten-free & vegetarian. I ordered a 2 taco combo with a shrimp & a Mahi with a huge portion of side fries. When I let the gentleman know I am gluten-free, he let me know they will simply omit a cream sauce usually used on the Mahi taco. Simple as that! And, they were delicious 😉

You also get to hear live music from a great, usually local indie band. Tonight’s guests were Corsica Arts Club, a dynamic, high energy band who had a great following of fans in the audience!

Another fun thing is when SFC has special guests from the film they’re showing. For Clueless, Amanda & I got to see Nicole Bilderback, who played the supporting role of “Summer”, as well as one of the producers Adam Schroeder. They had some wonderful info for us hard-core  fans. Like, a heads up about an awesome book now out entitled: As If!: An Oral History of Clueless and… oh yeah, there may be a musical in the works, & a little known lady, I think her name was, Katy Perry? May be involved!

Hearing all those hilarious lines last week, I decided to compile a list of some of the best quotes from Clueless. Enjoy & make sure to head out one of these weekends to Street Food Cinema.

Tai: Do you think she’s pretty?

Cher: No, she’s a full-on Monet.

Tai: What’s a Monet?

Cher: It’s like a painting, see? From far away, it’s OK, but up close, it’s a big old mess.

~

Tai: Cher, you’re a virgin?

Cher: You say that like it’s a bad thing.

Dionne: Besides, the PC term is “hymenally challenged.”

~

Tai: Why should I listen to you, anyway? You’re a virgin who can’t drive.

~

Tai: I could really use some sort of herbal refreshment.

Dionne: Oh, well we do lunch in ten minutes. We don’t have any tea, but we have Coke and stuff.

Tai: No sh*t. You guys got Coke here?

Dionne: Well, yeah.

Cher: Yeah, this is America.

~

26. Mel: Where are you?

Cher: I’m just having a snack at my girlfriend’s.

Mel: Where, in Kuwait?

Cher: Is that in the valley?

Thank you to Street Food Cinema for a great evening! xo

Clueless has some great quotes. But my goodness, I feel absolutely ancient now! How can it be 20 years old?

Hard to believe that it is already the 20th anniversary of the film Clueless . Will we ever get tired of watching Cher navigate Beverly Hills high school and discover true love in the movie Clueless?
