7 FAQs about Carmel-by-the-Sea….
Home sweet home! We spent a wonderful weekend in Carmel by the Sea, up on the California Coast, this past weekend, all compliments of The Hofsas House Hotel. In the coming weeks, expect lots of posts & info about how amazing (& yummy) this trip was. To start off, I found out such cool things about Carmel, that I thought I would share some with you! 😉
1) OK, is it true you will get a ticket if you wear high heels in Carmel?!
Not really, but back in the day, YES! In the 1950s, the city was warned that due to their cobble stone, uneven streets, it was really an insurance liability to allow people to wear any kind of high-heeled shoes. Can you imagine ladies back then, not wearing their heels?! You would have gotten a ticket then, but, nowadays, you can safely wear your beloved stilettos or pumps, but do watch your step!
2) Is Clint Eastwood still the Mayor?
While Dirty Harry was in charge of this gorgeous community  for 2 years & still resides nearby, he was only the Mayor in the 1980s.
3) Who made Carmel so dog friendly?
The one & only, Doris Day, is to thank for this! She has owned The Cypress Inn since the 1970’s, which was the first inn to be pet friendly in the area. Now, its rare for a hotel in Carmel not to be pet friendly. She still owns this lovely hotel & the walls are adorned with movie posters & memorabilia.
4) Isn’t that the city really just for seniors to visit?
NO! Carmel is the perfect destination for anyone. Theres wine tasting galore, delicious food for all budgets, shops, beach, golf courses, hikes, natural history, Big Sur & of course, the Monterey Aquarium. No matter where you are in the world, I would recommend visiting this stretch of California once in your life. It took my breath away & I already cannot wait to return.
5) Are Carmel & Monterey the same cities?
Nope, Theres actually Carmel-by-the-Sea, which is where I was & like its name, is surrounded by the bay; Carmel Valley, which is up in the mountains overlooking the valley & at some points you can see the water, then about 10 miles away is Monterey. All unique & worth going to, asap.
6) I don’t know, is it really that great of a destination?
If you don’t belive me, just ask Travel & Leisure, which chose it as the 3rd Most Romantic Getaway in the world, or Conde Nast Traveler, who ranked it the 6th Best USA Destination 😉
7) OK, where can I learn more & plan my trip?!
Right here! Â xo

March 27, 2014 at 1:11 pmI learned that if you go into City Hall wearing high heels and if you ask for a ticket they will write one out for you.
Of course it’s fake, but still thinks it neat they do that =)
