12 Days of Christmas Movies! Day 6: Meet Me in St. Louis
Woo hoo! We are in our 6th day of christmas movie posts. Have you watched the ones listed so far? Anything you recommend I have not mentioned yet? Enjoy! xo
DAY 6: MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS
I am often surprised that I do not hear Meet Me in St. Louis mentioned more on ‘Best Of’ lists & in conversations regarding film. This film gave us one of the most popular christmas songs made in the last 100 years (“Have Yourself A Merry Little CHristmas”) and, in a roundabout way, Liza Minnelli, as her parents, Star, Judy Garland & Director, Vincent Minnelli, met making this film.
Meet Me in St. Louis tells the story of The Smith Family, in 1903, a year before The World’s Fair is to come to Missouri. We are quickly introduced the girls of The Smith Family. They’re your typical, average middle class American family & we soon begin seeing glimpses into their lives, & are treated to such known songs as The Trolley Song & Boy Next Door.
As Christmas arrives, the family is shocked to find out that Mr. Smith has been transferred & the family will re-locate to New York. With the family devastated, Judy Garland sings (& debuts) Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, to soothe her sisters.
This film not only celebrates life, but a strong bond between families, friends & the city you live in. It’s a classic! xo
