A Steady Rain Makes its LA Debut at The Odyssey Theatre.

Last weekend, I headed out to LA’s Odyssey Theatre Ensemble for opening night of the Broadway record-breaking hit play, A Steady Rain. I admit, I did not know much about this story prior to attending & I was blown away by the twists & turns it took in its 90 minutes.

Rain

In the intimate, 3 row theatre, the story begins with our cast of 2;  Sal Viscuso (Denny) and Thomas Vincent Kelly (Joey). As we learn about the lives of these 2 best friend, Chicago cops, we’re suddenly taken on a rollercoaster ride of betrayal, lies, heart-break, tragedy, death & more as we hear these men share their stories. We begin thinking one plot, but soon discover there are many more layers to their journey.

Viscuso is brilliant as a gritty, tough cop with a heart & seemingly devoted family man, as is Kelly portraying Joey, who, unlike Denny, has yet to find a special someone or start a family, but may have his eyes set on someone.

To tell you more, I would easily give away the plot to this harrowing, dark, strong drama that relies on its script & actor duo to tell you more. A Steady Rain was a great reminder as to why I love theatre; we, the audience, were in a small room watching only 2 men in folding chairs yet by the end of the evening, you could hear a pin drop or people gasping at what they were hearing be revealed. Writer, Keith Huff, has created one of the best dramas of our era, & brought to life to perfection for its LA debut by Director, Jeff Perry.

I love live theater. I, like you, had not heard of this play. It sounds like one well worth the time and the price of a ticket. I’ll keep an eye out for it in my area. 🙂
